GTA 6's Story Mode is Reportedly 60+ Hours Long — Here's Why That Number Makes Sense

How long is GTA 6? It's the question that dominates every Reddit thread about the game, and this week a source with a middling-but-genuine track record on Rockstar leaks offered the most specific claim yet: 62 hours for main story completion, 200+ side missions, and "enough content to keep you busy for six months."

Let's put this in context. GTA V's main story runs about 31 hours on average completion. Red Dead Redemption 2 clocks in around 40 hours for the main narrative. If GTA 6 truly hits 62 hours of story content, it would represent the largest single-player narrative Rockstar has ever shipped — nearly double GTA V.

The dual-protagonist structure makes this more plausible than it might initially seem. If Lucia and Jason each carry their own story arcs before converging, the effective single-player content is spread across two character perspectives. Missions locked to each protagonist (as confirmed by earlier leaks) essentially double the mission count without requiring both characters to be present at every story beat.

Two hundred side missions is a larger number but not inherently improbable. GTA V had 58 strangers & freaks missions plus dozens of random events. If GTA 6 expands these categories significantly — as the world size and NPC AI improvements suggest — 200 becomes a stretch goal rather than a fantasy.

The skeptic's case: 60-hour estimates leak before almost every major open-world game and rarely hold at launch. Cyberpunk 2077 was rumored at 60+ hours; it's genuinely about 25 on a focused playthrough. Bethesda RPGs routinely claim hundreds of hours and deliver padding-heavy content past the 30-hour mark. The real question isn't whether the number is accurate — it's whether the hours are quality.

Our take: the main story is almost certainly longer than GTA V's, driven by dual protagonists and Rockstar's expanded team (GTA 6 has been in development with a team of 2,000+ people for over eight years). Whether it hits 60 hours or lands at a more conservative 40-45 hours is less important than whether those hours are as gripping as RDR2's. Based on everything we've seen, the ambition is real.
